Lovin' San Jose

Hello Everyone,

Little bit of an update....still lovin sunny California especially San Jose ! This week was a bit crazy . We've been working on the street of Ensalmo way here in SJ. We found this young guy Alex who's 19 & just super cool. He let us come back to teach him a lesson this week. He just came out of jail and he read the Book Of Mormon while in jail, and has lots of questions for us. He told us that reading the Book Of Mormon actually helped him through his time and he would teach others cell mates what he was learning about ! He's had a really hard life and we aren't sure what he did time for other than it had something to do with a drive by shooting! Yes, the exact place in front of his house where we teach him.  He starts telling us he's been shot right on these steps to his house. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Honestly, it's in the ghetto. Don't worry all is well we are always safe. He has so much faith and he wants to change and he's starting to look at life differently. We are homies with him now and he even came to church !!! We were supa excited about him coming. When I think about all his potential  I can't help but think about all the good the Lord has in store for him.

Now on to church .... so we had a crazy sunday we had 5 friends with us and somehow this hummingbird got up in the ceiling and was flying around us, our friend leticia and hector are sitting by us and Leticia  had on a bright red floral shirt  and all of sacrament meeting this bird kept flying towards us and attacking us. I tried so hard to stay reverent  and not laugh but it was soooo funny ! The entire time I kept trying to get this bird away from her. Then our other friend Hector was sitting by my companion and he started raising his hand in the air wanting to ask questions during sacrament meeting. We nicely told him we could answer his questions as soon as the sacrament was over. So between the bird and hector raising his hand constantly it was a bit of a circus. haha

We have a sacrament meeting at 10:00am & 7:00pm for members and friends who work on Sunday, so that's kinda unique to this area. We attend both meetings and that was the meeting our friend Alex attended. :)

We also had a cool lesson with our friend about the word of wisdom and while we were talking about it she gets her cold brew coffee from the fridge and pours it down the sink and says "I didn't like the taste of it anyways and how it makes me feel ." ( in spanish) It was awesome to see her faith.

A spiritual thought I'd like to share is about Cairns- definition "stacked rocks, more commonly known as Cairns, placed along the trail signify that you are on the right track. It is a marker guiding you to the correct path or trail in cases where navigation becomes difficult and the trail may be easily lost. "  I was thinking, what are the Cairns in our lives ? As we are on our life journey we need direction to get us where we want to go. These carnies help us know we are on the right track. We have been given so much knowledge and help from God to get us on the right path. These Cairns don't make the journey and path easier but maybe the Cairnes in our life  help us know that God has put someone or something right in our path to let us know he is there with us. We need to hear him DAILY ! Look for the Cairns in your life as little promptings and reassurances that keep you going on the right path.

Have a great week!

lots of love,

Hermana Green
